Home Office Furniture

ORIG: 1690, Fr.

Home office furniture is a generic name covering a multitude of furniture types.

Bureaus, Secretaires

Originating in France in 1690, the secretaire was an enclosed writing desk usually with an upper cabinet section. Bureaus were British in origin, again a writing desk with pigeonholes, drawers with the writing surface being closed when not in use.

Modern day bureaus tend to get used by laptops as much as writing desks, and Team7′s cubus bureau thoughtfully includes space to store a laptop underneath the bureau top. Naver have created a particularly beautiful retro desk with integrated space for small peripherals.

Other Examples

Home office furniture also includes desks, pedestals, office chairs, office cabinets. Some of the finest examples are available in the UK from Wharfside.
